We currently have an opening for a full-time Underwriter, who will perform the full range of underwriting duties, including evaluating mortgage applications to determine if buyer, property, and conditions meet applicable investor guidelines.  As a member of the underwriting team, the ideal candidate will collaborate with other members to provide a customer experience that is consistent with the goals of GR, as well as, meet the needs of the internal and external customers. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Reviews and evaluates information on documents to determine if collateral capacity and credit meet applicable investor guidelines.
• Checks files for all requirements prior to forwarding them to Closing.
• Approves or rejects application, or requests additional information.
• Records rejections, specifying investor and institution guidelines and basis for declining application, such as insufficient cash reserves.
• Evaluates files in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss.
• Underwrites a minimum of 4-6 files per day.
• Assists sales staff with underwriting questions / inquiries.

REQUIREMENTS 

• High School Diploma / GED; Associate degree preferred
• Minimum three to five (3 - 5) solid years of recent underwriting experience in a mortgage banking environment, to include underwriting self-employed borrowers and a solid understanding of complex & corporate tax returns.
• Excellent oral & written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail.

Aside from the requirements above, the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in exceptional follow-up and customer service, and must be able to prioritize multiple projects to ensure deadlines are met.  Must also be able to demonstrate initiative and use independent judgment within Guidance's established guidelines and procedures.
